Single Review: Ballad Of The Mighty I // Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

Here we stand, with several months having passed since Noel’s announcement of his second solo record, Chasing Yesterday. We’ve had tasters, with the release of its lead single ‘In The Heat Of The Moment’, paired with yet another cracking b-side in ‘Do The Damage’. But, the time has now come to marvel at yet another one of The Chief’s seemingly effortless chapters of audible artistry with ‘Ballad Of The Mighty I’.

Whilst still utilising the stripped-back verses a la ‘Do The Damage’ – comprising simply of an almost funky bass line from Russell Pritchard in support of Noel’s powerful vocals, before diving into the effervescent chords of the chorus – there is a noticeable difference in both aura and delivery here in some ways, which of course is to be expected of a song with the word ‘ballad’ at the forefront of its title.
